5-Amino-1MQ is an orally bioavailable small-molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), the enzyme that consumes nicotinamide and S-adenosyl methionine to produce 1-methylnicotinamide. Blocking NNMT is intended to raise intracellular NAD+ and S-adenosyl methionine, especially in adipose tissue, where rodent work has reported increased fat-cell energy expenditure and reduced diet-induced obesity. Despite being sold and discussed alongside peptides, it is not a peptide but a methylquinolinium small molecule.

Overview

Human evidence is absent: there are no completed or active clinical trials, no regulatory approval in any jurisdiction, and every efficacy result to date comes from cell-culture or rodent models.

Because no governmental regulatory health authority has approved it for human therapeutic use, it falls under class S0 (non-approved substances) of the WADA Prohibited List, meaning 5-Amino-1MQ is prohibited by WADA at all times, both in and out of competition.
