Selank is a nootropic anxiolytic peptide based drug developed by the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Selank is a heptapeptide with the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro (TKPRPGP). It is a synthetic analogue of the human tuftsin.
Overview
The Pro-Gly-Pro tail is the same stabilising extension used in Semax, and Selank is reported to act on GABAergic and monoamine signalling and on enkephalin metabolism rather than by binding a benzodiazepine site, which is the basis for its claimed anxiolytic effect without sedation or dependence.
It is registered as a medicine in Russia but holds no FDA or EMA approval.
Selank is not named individually on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List, and no section of that list clearly reaches a tuftsin analogue, so its status is genuinely unsettled; it is treated here as prohibited on the conservative assumption that a compound registered only in Russia may be caught by the non-approved-substances category.
